Renewable Energy in the Global South
The Future Has Huge Potential
Renewable energy today accounts for 67% of sub-Saharan Africa’s energy consumption, and 17% globally. Thanks to increasing capital flows, renewable energy capacity in Africa could reach 310GW by 2030, which would make it the world’s largest producer of green energy, according to the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA).
“Lithium-ion batteries are the new phase of energy storage in sub-Saharan Africa. Their impact will be a significant reduction in the global CO2 emissions.”
